Keren Energy is proudly pioneering the Green Hydrogen industry in South Africa

APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

Established in 2012, Keren Energy is a successful bidder in the South African Department of Energy’s Renewable Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP). The programme is aimed at boosting the country’s electricity supply through private sector investment in renewable, sustainable power projects. We have been successful in 5 x 5MW Solar PV bids and we currently have a pipeline of 1000MW Solar PV projects under development. Keren Energy has also established an exciting proof of concept Green Hydrogen Project in Vredendal in the Western Cape.

About WEYERS VAN RENSBURG

Weyers Janse van Rensburg qualified as a Certified Public Accountant in Louisiana, USA. He returned to South Africa in 2001 and has held Financial Management and Directorship positions across several industries, including Renewable Energy. In 2016 he joined Keren Energy Investments (Pty) Ltd, where he has managed the financial modelling, project development and bid submission teams.

Due to an increase and complexity in projects Weyers established Keren Energy Group Holdings (Pty) Ltd. As the holding company for all Keren Energy assets.

About GEORGE VAN RENSBURG

George Janse van Rensburg has extensive experience in developing various projects in Africa. After obtaining a B.Com Degree from the University of Stellenbosch, George joined his family business, developing and establishing mid-sized breweries in southern Africa and Africa.

The family business ventured into renewable energy in 2012, with the release of the South African Government’s Renewable Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP). George played an integral role in the development and bidding of numerous projects, and Keren Energy was awarded Preferred Bidder Status for five of the seven projects presented to the Department of Energy. An experienced negotiator, George successfully sold these projects to an international renewable energy consortium.

PROOF OF CONCEPT

Pioneering cleaner, greener, sustainable solutions

In a joint venture with Sakhumnotho, Cape Stack and Namaqua Engineering, Keren Energy has partnered with the University of the Western Cape’s South African Institute for Advanced Materials Chemistry (SAIAMC). This exciting collaboration is responsible for one of the very first Green Hydrogen projects in South Africa.

Based in Vredendal, Western Cape, the site uses a 100KW photovoltaic solar system to produce green hydrogen. This project is a proof of concept to demonstrate the feasibility of Green Hydrogen Production at a fully permitted project site in Vanrhynsdorp.

The project is overseen by one of South Africa’s first Hydrogen Safety Engineering experts, Dr Stanford Chidziva.

IN THE PIPELINE

Keren Energy has been awarded 5 x 5MW Solar PV bids in the South African Department of Energy’s Renewable Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP). The projects are located in the Northern Cape, known for its abundance of sunshine. They are based near Kakamas, Keimoes, Hopetown, Kuruman and Danielskuil.

We also have a further 1000MW of solar PV projects under development.
